Recognizing Excellence in Unionized Maintenance

About the Award

Members of Canada’s Building Trades Unions represent the highest level of skill, training, and professionalism in the country. Through their work, they safely build and maintain the critical infrastructure that Canadians rely on every day.

The CS2A Craftperson of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding unionized maintenance craftperson whose performance on a maintenance project demonstrates exceptional safety leadership, technical skill, professionalism, and leadership. This award highlights individuals whose contributions go above and beyond expectations and positively impact their project, employer, and fellow workers.

All nominations are reviewed by a CS2A sub-committee, which selects one recipient annually.

Eligibility

  • Open to journeypersons and forepersons
  • Must be executing maintenance work under a GPMA or NMA Collective Agreement
  • Nominees must be members of Canada’s Building Trades Unions
  • Demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas:
    • Safety & Health
    • Schedule & Budget performance
    • Productivity
    • Quality of workmanship
    • Leadership and teamwork

How to Apply

Current Signatory Employers may submit nominations for this prestigious award.

To be considered:

  • Complete all sections of the nomination form, including nominee, union, employer, client, and project information
  • Provide a biography of the nominee (maximum 250 words)
  • Upload a high-resolution color photo of the nominee
  • Clearly describe the project work scope and explain why the individual deserves recognition, referencing the listed performance criteria
  • Include quotes from supervisors or team members that highlight the nominee’s contributions and character
  • Attach any supporting documents or images that strengthen the submission

Incomplete nominations will not be considered.

Recognition

The successful nominee will be recognized in person at the:

10th Annual Canadian Safety Achievement Awards (CS2A) Banquet

📍 Edmonton Convention Center

Deadline

All nominations must be submitted by April 30, 2026.
